The Daily Five
Our very first days at school will be spent learning how to become better readers! Of course, we will be doing this all year, but let me explain how we will get started...During the first few days, we will be learning a few very important terms:
Stamina: the ability or muscle memory to do something for an extended amount of time. We will be learning about stamina and building stamina as we grow into independent readers. Our goal is to have sustained reading for
20-30 minutes at a time. We will work in small increments toward this goal.
IPICK: Finding good fit books
I choose a book.
Purpose-why do I want to read it?
Interest-does it interest me?
Comprehend-am I understanding what I am reading ?
Know-I know most of the words

1. Read the Pictures
2. Read the Words
3. Retell a Previous Book
