Discipline Procedure
Through our P.A.W.S. Program, we focus on positive behaviors in school. When a student is caught using good "P.A.W.S." behavior, they are rewarded with a ticket. All tickets are placed in our P.A.W.S. canister and are collected each Friday. On Monday, there is a drawing from the collected tickets. One student from each category (Positive, Accountable, Well-Mannered, Safe) is selected to win a prize. There are many prizes, but some include: a free homework pass, Lapel t-shirts, small toys, books, etc. Schoolwide P.A.W.S. awards are also given out at Awards Day at the end of the year.
Any time a child does not follow the behavior plan (as stated in the "Behavior at School" tab), they will receive a slip like the one below. This slip will be stapled to their agenda book on the day it was given. The slip will need to stay attached to the agenda book to be signed and returned the next day.

Though I would like to give out only P.A.W.S. tickets for good behavior, there are certain guidelines and boundaries that have to be set during the school
day. As stated in my "Behavior at School" tab, there are many appropriate and inappropriate behaviors that happen at school. Let's start with the positive part of my discipline plan. If a child does not recieve a behavior slip during the day, you should expect to see a smiley face at the bottom of their agenda book on any given day. If a child does not receive any behavior slips in any given week, they will receive a P.A.W.S. positive behavior ticket, and their name will be put in the weekly schoolwide drawing. As stated previously, a child can receive these tickets at other times during the day when they are caught using good P.A.W.S. behavior. If your child has not been following the rules, they will receive a behavior slip. The behavior slip will look like the one to the left. I will check off which behavior was not being utilized correctly. ***Your child will receive 1 verbal warning before receiving an OOPS slip. In the past, I've given a TON of warnings...which has led to a difficult school year where discipline is involved. So this year, (for each day) there will be 1 warning. Then: 1 check: this means they will have a written reminder of an off-task behavior. 2 checks: your child will miss 5 minutes of recess as a failure to meet classroom expectations. 3 checks: a discipline referral sheet will be filled out and will be recorded in the office. The child will miss 1 recess and may be sent to the principal, for a time out. **When a child is acting out this much in class, the principal can help me find alternative interventions to help your child be more successful! *** The harming of a child is not tolerated in any way. Your child will receive an automatic discipline referral to the principal's office if this happens. Following our P.A.W.S. program is very important to the overall learning atmosphere in our classroom. When one child is disruptive during class, it can keep many other students from learning! It is my goal to help students with disruptive behaviors learn to respond in a more positive way when difficulties arise. We will do this through practicing correct behaviors and thinking about consequences before reacting to a situation. |
